Mac: iMovie comes with OS X, Final Cut Pro

How can I convert digital video from one encoding to another?
Mac: To get stuff into iMovie, I am pretty sure it needs to be in mp4 format - eventually, you may find yourself needing to convert between video formats. Handbrake is good for that, though its configuration is a bit hairy - there is good documentation though, especially if you know what you want to do
